Georgeana Ireland
I have been an artist as long as I can remember. I love working with thick oil paint and mixed media. I am inspired by the many masters of past generations and I have been fortunate to see some of the world’s greatest art in person. My eyes have been a camera for intense study in my travels around the world. What I create comes from my imagination, memory and my emotion. It is my quest to capture the sublime, haunting beauty and spirit. When someone holds their hand to their heart and says that they “feel” my art, I am moved ... I have accomplished my mission. It is my vision to paint the mysteries of the subconscious and elements of the sublime. Now in my 30th year as an artist, I count the last ten years a “new beginning” and a period of tremendous growth. Travel to 40 countries to study the greatest works of art has refined my eyes and artistic vision. My art finds its roots in Abstract Expressionism, Romanticism and Automatism. In this era of uncertainty and unrest, I am creating a language of beauty and peace. I seek to share the quite place and create a bridge between emotion and art." Studios in Newport Beach, and La Quinta CA Born: 1968 Gold Beach, Oregon Georgeana Ireland is a Southern California artist specializing in large scale Lyrical Abstract Art. Her artistic process began as a child; artistic talent runs on both side of the family. As a teenager she painted many hours a day and she began exhibiting in galleries at age 19. She studied privately with numerous teachers but primarily she considers herself autodidactic. Her greatest influence as an artist was a period of intense travel around the world- 43 countries. She spent many hours in museums taking notes and “dissecting” the art with her eyes as photography was not allowed. She feels the museums were her greatest teacher. Her current body of work is large scale and has a dreamy narrative quality to it. A noted colorist she paints with thick impasto layers in oil and acrylic and then adds diamond dust, 24k gold leaf and holographic pigments. Her monumental work “Twilight Mood” 6’x24’ was selected by Los Angeles Cultural Affairs and Los Angeles World Airports (LAX) for display for 3 years. In 2015 the Museum of Latin American Art selected Georgeana Ireland and Vladimir Cora to paint “Tres Graces Long Beach” live at the museum. They painted starting with a blank canvas neither of them speaking the others language only using the language of paint.Georgeana Irelands paintings are in private and public collections across the US and she has shown in museum and gallery shows around the world. "Georgeana Ireland’s painting demonstrates a compelling use of color and texture which is only enhanced when seen in person. Her treatment seems to draw from both the loose handling of impressionism and the inner psychology of Expressionism” Miranda Lash, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art New Orleans Museum of Art EXHIBITIONS: 2016(2015) Ethos Contemporary Art, Newport Beach, CA 2016-(2010) Contemporary Fine Arts, La Jolla, Ca 2016 (2008) Cobalt Fine Art, Tubac, AZ 2016-(2012) Third Dimension Gallery, Kona Coast, HI 2016-(2011) Petri’s Fine Arts, Sausalito, CA 2016 -(2010) Ocean Gallery, Avalon, NJ 2015 Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA (Collaboration with Vladimir Cora) 2008-2015 Fingerhut Gallery, Laguna Beach, CA, Solo Artist Show 2013-2015 Bill Hester Gallery, Santa Fe, NM 2012 Ambassador Gallery, Santa Barbara, CA 2011 Art Expo, New York, NY (Solo Award) 2011 Salmagundi Juried, Salmagundi Club, New York, NY 2011 CCAA Museum of Art, Juried, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 2009 Andrews Art Museum, Andrews, North Carolina 2009 “California Open” 2009 Biennial, Los Angeles Municipal Gallery Ca 2009 Midwest Abstract V, Greenwood, Indiana *Award winner 2009 46th Annual Juried Competition, Masur Museum of Art, Monroe, LA 2009 “Take Out” Invitational Exhibition, Brevard Art Museum Melbourne, FL 2009 Art into life/Life into Art, Pen and Brush, New York, NY 2009 Collection Privee, Miami, FL 2008 Impact Art Gallery., New York 2008 “Buy the Inch” Orange County Center for Contemporary Art 2008-2009 Fingerhut Gallery, Sausalito, CA, 2008 “Winter Show” Gallery 54 Hefordshire, UK 2008-2009 Chalk Farm Gallery, Santa Fe, NM, Solo Artist Show 2007 Azali On Forest, Laguna Beach, CA, Solo Artist Show 2007 “California Open” 2007 Biennial, Los Angeles Municipal Gallery 2007 J.Willott Gallery, Palm Desert, CA 2006-2008LosAngelesInternational Airport, Department of Cultural Affairs, CA, Solo Artist 2006 Forest Avenue Fine Art, Laguna Beach, CA, Solo Artist Show 2006 Farmington Museum, NM, “Gateway to Imagination” 2005 Johnson County Museum, Indianapolis, IN, “Midwest Abstraction” AWARDS: 2011 Art Expo New York, Solo Award 2009 Midwest Abstract V Second place, Southside Art League 2006 Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs Award, First Place, LAX International Exhibition 2006 Midwest Abstraction Award, Second Place, Christiel De Haan Fine Arts Center Gallery, University of Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN 2005 Midwest Abstraction Award, “Best of Show” Johnson County Museum, Franklin IN PUBLICATIONS: Newport Beach Lifestyle 7/15 Orange Coast Magazine, 9/12/07, 4/5/08 American Art Collector 9/2012 Orange Metro Magazine, 5/1/08 Coast Magazine, 1/4/03, 1/4/07, 4/5/08 Franklin County Register, 10/1/05 Art Waves.
